SUMMARY:November General Meeting: A Glimpse Into the History of Archambault Square
DESCRIPTION:Join us on November 16 at 7:30 PM at the Half-Moon Inn for a fascinating presentation on Joseph Archambault and Archambault Square. Joseph Archambault was one of Newtown Boroughs’ most remarkable figures in 19th century history. He was a former member of Napoleon Bonaparte’s entourage as a young man and followed him into exile before moving to Newtown. Once in Newtown he became a prominent businessman\, landowner\, and community leader. He worked in several trades\, including watchmaking and dentistry\, and eventually owned and operated the Brick Hotel\, one of Newtown’s most historic landmarks. He built the house on Archambault Square in 1837 at 115 Washington Avenue\, where it remains one of Newtown’s most historical residences. Learn about the unique architecture of the property and hear from the current owners about what it is like to live in such a historic home. This is just one of the homes that will be featured on the 2026 Holiday House Tour in December. \nThis event is free and open to the public. All are invited and you do not have to be a member to attend. \nBy attending NHA\, or NHA-related\, events and activities\, you allow the Newtown Historic Association (NHA) to record or photograph you during your attendance and to use these images for promotional and archival purposes on any medium for an unlimited period.

SUMMARY:March General Meeting: “Revolutionary New Hope” presented by Roy Ziegler
DESCRIPTION:Roy Ziegler is past president and historian of the New Hope Historical Society serving on its board of directors for twenty-four years.  He has produced and conducted numerous historic walking tours of New Hope\, as well as video documentaries of its history. \nOn March 15th he will give a talk to the Newtown Historical Association that will trace New Hope’s evolution from a small farming community to its occupation by George Washington’s army during the Revolutionary War.  The influx of developers after the war catapulted the small town along the Delaware River to become the industrial and manufacturing capital of Bucks County in the early19th century.  The chief catalyst in that development was a young entrepreneur from Philadelphia\, William Maris\, whose biography Mr. Ziegler recently published\, The Mysterious Mr. Maris.  Join us to hear all about this fascinating evolution. \nThis event is free for members.  Non-members are also welcome to attend\, and donations are always appreciated. \nBy attending NHA\, or NHA-related\, events and activities\, you allow the Newtown Historic Association (NHA) to record or photograph you during your attendance and to use these images for promotional and archival purposes on any medium for an unlimited period.
