Newtown Historic Association presents:
“200 Years of Newtown Quakers – Newtown Friends Meeting House, 1817 – 2017”

Newtown Historic Association’s May meeting will be held on Monday May 8, 2017 at 7:30 pm at the Newtown Friends Meeting, 219 Court St. Newtown.

Newtown Friends Meeting was formed in 1815, and the meetinghouse opened two years later. NHA member Bill Heinemann, a member of the Meeting and a resident of Newtown Borough, will talk about the history of Quakerism in the area prior to creating Newtown Meeting, why that didn’t happen sooner, and the important role of Edward Hicks. His presentation will describe how Quaker beliefs are reflected in the building’s architecture, how the meetinghouse has expanded and adapted to meet the needs of the growing community, and the nearby Quaker schools and retirement communities connected with the Meeting.

Everyone is invited – No Reservations Needed – This will prove to be a very interesting and informative meeting. For further information call 215-968-3914.
