Carl LaVo on the History of Bucks County
The November meeting of the Newtown Historic Association will be held on Monday, November 18th at 7:30 PM at the Half Moon Inn, 105 Court Street, Newtown. Carl LaVo will be speaking about the History of Bucks County for this General Meeting.
You may know Carl from his regular column in the Bucks County Courier Times and the Intelligencer. He is known for writing about his many explorations of places in Bucks County with his family, his curiosity about the rich history of our past and his love for uncovering and sharing the stories behind these places.
Carl LaVo is a graduate of the Univeristy of Florida in Gainesville, is a weekly columnist for the Bucks County Courier Times and the Intelligencer newspapers and the author of Bucks County Adventures. He is a native of California and has lived in Bucks County for more than 40 years. He and his wife Mary Anne have written numerous stories about Bucks County for regional and national magazines. Together with daughter Genevieve and her family, they’ve shared many adventures getting to know the unique places and rich history of the county that dates back to the Lenni Lenape Indians and William Penn.
Carl is the retired former editor of the Bucks County Courtier Times and a member of its editorial board. He’s the author of four previous books on submarine history, published by the Naval Institute Press in Anapolis: Back from the Deep, Slade Cutter, The Galloping Ghost and Pushing the Limits. He also has written many articles for the Naval Institute’s two magazines, Proceedings and Naval History. Back from the Deep has been optioned for a major motion picture. His television appearances include The History Channel’s Silent Service, and Man, Moment and Machine.
An award-winning journalist and photographer, Carl has written for Philadelphia magazine, National Wildlife, Down East and many other periodicals.
A native of California, he’s an experienced scuba diver and led pioneering explorations of water-filled caverns and subterranean rivers of Florida to depths of 200 feet.
