The Half-Moon Inn Tavern Plays a Role Ken Burns’ Documentary, The American Revolution

Back in November 2023, the Newtown Historic Association (NHA) received an exciting message from one of the co-producers at Florentine Films, the production company of the acclaimed filmmaker, Ken Burns. The production team was searching for an authentic Revolutionary War–era tavern to include in their upcoming PBS documentary.
After visiting our historic Half-Moon Inn Tavern, the team confirmed it was the perfect location. Filming took place in December 2023, capturing the charm and authenticity of the tavern.
The project, titled The American Revolution, #AmericanRevolutionPBS, is a six-part, 12-hour documentary series directed by Ken Burns, Sarah Botstein, and David Schmidt. The documentary explores the origins and enduring promise of American democracy, bringing to life the struggles and ideals that shaped our nation.
The series premieres on Sunday, November 16 on @PBS and will air for six consecutive nights through Friday, November 21st at 8:00-10:00 p.m. ET (check local listings) on PBS. The full series will be available to stream beginning Sunday, November 16 at PBS.org and on the PBS App.
The series offers a powerful retelling of how the United States was founded and the sacrifices made in its war for independence.
The NHA is deeply honored that the Half-Moon Inn Tavern will be a part of this historic production, and we invite everyone to tune in and explore more about our nation’s past. To learn more, please see the following link: www.pbs.org/kenburns/the-american-revolution/
